Location
Engawa Space Centro de Arte Moderna GulbenkianThe work of Elina Waage Mikalsen is developed with sound and leather alongside research to her sound practice. This practice focuses on building a soundscape for an upcoming album and initiating a sound installation to be exhibited in 2026 in Roskilde, in Denmark, and in Malmö, in Sweeden, exploring echoes, repetition, and joik – traditional song of the Sámi people – as a method of field recording and as a way to reflect on the relationship between land, people, and song.
This residency also supports the artist’s research into indigenous methodologies and sound, expanding an investigation into listening and the sonic world of the Sámi, through forms of ‘soft work’ that require minimal space and materials.
The artist will be talking with the audience on the 24th (Saturday), in this space.
