A regular presence at Jazz em Agosto in recent years, having performed with collectives such as Ahmed, The Locals and X-Ray Hex Tet, the British musician Pat Thomas appears this time in a solo piano concert based on the album Hikmah (2025).

Hikmah, an Arabic word meaning “wisdom or knowledge”, serves as the thematic umbrella for an album that, as Marc Corrotto writes in All About Jazz, “reaffirms Pat Thomas as a singular voice in improvised music”.

“Thomas invites the listener to focus deeply, but also to let go without restraint, as if suspended between prayer and dream. His left hand often acts as an anchor, while the right ventures into the unknown.” As though the spiritual and the earthly inhabit the keys of his piano simultaneously.
