On its 20th anniversary, the project created and led by Marco Barroso brings to Jazz em Agosto a singular and irreverent vision of the big band sound.
Comprising musicians from both jazz and classical backgrounds, LUME explores the typical vocabulary of this type of ensemble while simultaneously playing with its clichés and injecting references from rock, popular music, avant-garde jazz, contemporary composed music and experimentalism.
For London Jazz News, “Marco Barroso has developed within LUME a uniquely functioning sonic organism, also evident in his minimalist conducting style”.
The starting point is always the same: to think of each composition as a space of infinite possibilities and an opportunity to point towards a different horizon.
