Open-Air Amphitheatre Gulbenkian GardenThe closing concert will be performed by one of the musicians with whom Jazz in August has established a closer relationship. John Zorn, a seminal figure within New York jazz, a compulsive composer and someone always seeking to reinvent his endless repertoire, revives the concept of one of his most emblematic bands and blows new life into it as New Masada Quartet, bringing his loyal drummer Kenny Wollesen, bassist Jorge Roeder and the impressive guitarist Julian Lage along for the ride. In revisiting classic tracks from the Masada playbook, this new group will only reinforce what a fascinating and crucial figure Zorn has been within the history of music in recent decades.
