Sopros is the title of João Próspero’s debut album, released in 2024 on the Carimbo Porta-Jazz label, in which all the compositions are inspired by the musician’s reading of the literary work of Japanese writer Haruki Murakami.

Between poetry and tension, mystery and drama, obsession and strangeness, the quartet led by the Portuguese bassist follows various cues from Murakami’s books to build a repertoire that always seeks to create disturbing and enigmatic narratives.

Still at the beginning of his career as a leader and composer, João Próspero is showing an appreciable maturity and robustness, creating together with Joaquim Festas, Miguel Meirinhos and Gonçalo Ribeiro a distinctive and affirming sound.
