- Joachim Kühn Piano
Clear proof of his inexhaustible creative source, Joachim Kühn recorded the double solo album Échappée for Intakt Records shortly before turning 80.
Since the 1960s, the German pianist has been one of the leading figures in avant-garde jazz, thanks to an extraordinarily rich pianistic language that draws equally from the jazz tradition and the legacy of European classical music. This free and expansive world is fully present in Échappée, with Jazzwise highlighting the coexistence of references such as Ravel, Chopin, Bud Powell and Art Tatum.
“Do not expect calm, crystalline improvisation,” Jazzwise also wrote, “but rather a frenetic gallop which, after repeated listening, reveals an underlying sense of structure beneath the apparent randomness of cascading notes.”
