Rob Mazurek and Chad Taylor ended the Chicago Underground Duo’s 11-year silence with the release on International Anthem of Hyperglyph, a feast of jazz colliding with the deconstructed language of post-rock, an African-rooted rhythmic palette and the experimental exuberance of electronics.
Their reunion follows experiences with collectives such as Exploding Star Orchestra, Fly or Die (by Jaimie Branch) and Marshall Allen’s Ghost Horizons, resulting in a dialogue that combines Taylor’s trance-like percussion with Mazurek’s constant centrifugal motion, employing a wide array of instruments and a multimedia dimension reserved for the stage.
A prodigious space between jungle and city, ancestry and future projection.
