Pascal Niggenkemper Double bass
The trio led by Brandon Seabrook, founded on the New York-Detroit axis, works with hallucinatory landscapes, cutting humour, recurring aesthetic and register changes. Accompanied by Gerald Cleaver (drums and electronics) and Pascal Niggenkemper (double bass), Seabrook explores unusual areas on the guitar and, above all, on the unusual banjo he brings to this line-up. “It’s a challenge to extract different textures from this anachronistic piece of wood covered in metal from 1927,” he said of the instrument in an interview with Vice magazine – the same magazine that called him the “apocalyptic destroyer of the banjo”. Because what Seabrook does with a guitar or banjo in his hands, supported by his exceptional companions, is to take the instruments to new places, where they are almost unrecognisable.
