Iberian Bluetail
Ischnura graellsii
This damselfly occurs in the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa. It is widely distributed throughout mainland Portugal and is one of the most common species in this order. They inhabit almost all freshwater bodies, including small streams and ponds, flying amongst the bankside vegetation hunting small insects. Thanks to their adaptability in choosing aquatic habitats, these damselflies readily find suitable conditions for reproduction, whether in the lake or in the smaller bodies of water within the Gulbenkian Garden.
