Fernando Lemos

Luz Armada [Armoured Light]

Lemos’s Luz Armada [Armoured Light] is the result of the use of meshes which allow the light to filter through, dictating an abstract, hard to predict projection on the wall. This simple visual experiment can be read in other ways in Fernando Lemos’s work, given the artist’s commitment to discovering surrealism as something that transcended the experience of the everyday.

Techniques such as multiple exposures, opposition between negative and positive, fragmentation of reality, dramatic illuminations and staging formed part of his photographic lexicon in an experimentation that was unique among visual artists in Portugal at the time.
