End of the project ‘Can we go in a new direction?’, by Gabriela Albergaria
Between March and July this year, the installation ‘Can we go in a new direction?’, created by Gabriela Albergaria for a shipping container, welcomed the residents of Benfica in the square in front of the Centro Comercial Fonte Nova, inviting them to reflect on their relationship with nature.
The artist imagined the container as a space of and for the community, a place in which to hold workshops and encourage the participation of local residents, structures and associations. During these months, the container was the stage for various activities, from workshops on seed bombs, worm composting and homemade remedies to conversations about biodiversity, food and zero waste.
On 16 July, the project rounded off with a closing event, which once again provided opportunities to share with the local community and with visitors, including a workshop with the Clube da Agulha and a traditional dance with Tradballs – Cooperativa de Artes & Cultura Tradicionais.
This project was part of the CAM in Motion programme, the aim of which is to leave the walls of the Foundation and extend its sphere of action into the metropolitan area of Lisbon, creating links with audiences outside the places where artworks are usually found.
