Michael Craig-Martin's work investigates the relationship between objects and images and the human ability to visualize absent forms through symbols. Craig-Martin began drawing pictures of everyday objects in the late 1970s and, over the years, created an ever-expanding vocabulary of images that form the basis of his work to this day. In this painting, the artist depicts nine isolated objects against a bright blue background, freely arranged in space, with different scales and vanishing points. The title Looking draws attention to the very act of observing, making the viewer aware of how the simple act of looking interprets and transforms objects.
