Can I Live? – Complicité

Can I Live? is a digital arts environmentalist production developed in partnership with actor and climate activist Fehinti Balogun. Developed by Complicité with our support, Can I Live? has aimed to test and document the potential of the arts as a tool for engaging new audiences beyond the usual reach of environmental communications (particularly diverse communities of colour). The Foundation has contributed with £19,500, complementing funding from Arts Council England.

In 2020, Complicité launched the Developed with Complicité programme, a new strand of work to develop the next generation of socially-engaged theatre makers. Can I Live? is the first public project under this strand. This new piece comes from actor and climate activist Fehinti Balogun. Can I Live? uses original hip-hop, spoken word and stunning video to explore what is happening to the planet through the eyes of a young Black British man whose path has been forever changed by all that he has learnt about the climate emergency. By joining Fehinti on his own personal journey with the climate emergency, the audience are invited into a safe space to discuss, question and think through the future of our planet.

The filmed production ‘toured’ the UK digitally in Autumn 2021 in association with theatres around the country.
