Sélébéyone

In the African Wolof dialect, sélébéyone means something like “intersection”. An appropriate word to sum up the project that saxophonist Steve Lehman has created with the rappers HPrizm/High Priest (from the Antipop Consortium) and Gaston Bandimic (a real hip-hop star from Senegal). For a musician like Lehman, the search for new languages and experiments is a permanent obsession, and in this jazz and hip-hop context (which had already produced excellent results in projects such as A Tribe Called Quest or in the association between Matthew Shipp and the Antipop Consortium), the saxophonist achieves a musical landscape as diverse as it is stimulating.
