Koopman and Mozart
It is a well-known fact that the heart of the Dutch conductor Ton Koopman beats strongly for the Baroque repertoire, but he is equally known for his categorical statement that 1791, the year of the death of Mozart, is where the line is drawn. Ton Koopman is famous for the complete recording of the long series of Cantatas by J. S. Bach, but he also sees as one of the highest points of his career the recordings of Mozart’s Symphonies that he conducted in 1991 (on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the composer’s death) with his Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra.
