Sunday Concerts

When it comes to Opera, its true presence in popular culture is sometimes forgotten. In this concert, the Gulbenkian Orchestra and Choir, under the direction of conductor Jorge Matta, perform some of the most exciting Great Choruses from 19th century opera. From Beethoven to Wagner, Bizet to Verdi and Puccini, wars and their heroes, power struggles and the fight for peoples’ freedom, love, longing, the return of the beloved and songs of joy and praise, these are unique musical moments that have marked many generations. An occasion to celebrate this endurance to time and to realise how familiar the operatic repertoire can be for any listener.
