Grand Auditorium Calouste Gulbenkian FoundationMatthias Pintscher is the current director of the Ensemble Intercontemporain, founded in 1976 by Pierre Boulez. He is also an acclaimed and prolific composer and his second concerto for violin and orchestra, Mar’eh, is premiered in Portugal in the interpretation by the renowned violinist Renaud Capuçon, who has played it on several occasions. Originally written for Julia Fischer, Mar’eh searches for the meaning of the Hebrew word for “face”, but also “aura” or “a beautiful sight suddenly appeared”, something that Pintscher has tried to transpose into the score.
