The main focus of the Cantabile Festival, which has rapidly established itself since its opening edition in 2010 as an important musical event in Lisbon, is the chamber music repertoire. The Gulbenkian Foundation is maintaining its status as a festival partner with the Goethe Institut, and the current edition will feature the world premiere of the Concerto para Viola e Orquestra (Concerto for Viola and Orchestra) which António Pinho Vargas composed for violist Diemut Poppen. The Ruins of the Convent of Carmo provide an emblematic historical setting for the music.
