The account of the first circumnavigation of the earth, under the command of Ferdinand Magellan, as told by the gentleman Antonio Pigafetta, the Italian scholar and explorer who travelled on board the Victoria and survived to tell the tale. Magellan’s voyage is also a journey of sounds… the sounds that the sailors heard, the sounds they imagined… the sounds they dreamed of… the shouts of “land ahoy” that might save them… or the sounds of the endless oceans of hope, victory, or despair… From both ocean and land come winds that are essential – some gentle, others terrible… A Última Nau (“The last ship”) brings us the sounds – of these coastlines, these lands, these seas – carried by the winds – real or metaphorical – from the whole world.
