As a member of the ECHO (European Concert Hall Organization) network, featuring a group of prestigious concert halls in Europe, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation once again hosts the Rising Stars series. Throughout a musically intense day, filled with deferred broadcasts recorded at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the focus is on the new talents of contemporary musical creation and interpretation. As always, the programme is centred around a diversity of languages and performances by musicians of exceptional talent.
With a wide variety of different instruments from body percussion through bells to the vibraphone, percussionist Vanessa Porter creates hypnotic soundscapes ranging from delicate beauty to violent eruptions. What an entry into the world of classical music! In 2012 Daniel Barenboim gave Cristina Gómez Godoy, then just turned 21, a position in his Staatskapelle Berlin, where she now plays the solo oboe. Since then, the young virtuoso, who was born in the Spanish town of Linares, fills her free days playing with other world-class orchestras like the Berlin Philharmonic, or in a witty chamber-music ensemble alongside Daniel Barenboim, Guy Braunstein or Claire Huangci.

As the trade magazine The Strad put it: she has »the ability to captivate the audience with her strong personality and her impressive gestures«. Only last season, he was the BBC's »New Generation Artist«, and he has also been a member of the ensemble at the Hanover State Opera since 2019.
