Jesus bleibet meine Freude
Choral from the Cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, BWV 147 (arr. by Myra Hesse)
The pianist Martha Argerich said that she had never heard anyone like Daniil Trifonov, a musician who expresses himself with both “delicacy and frenzy”. One of the biggest talents of recent years, the Russian pianist’s musical career was already underway when he had an epiphany after hearing the work of Scriabin, a composer who inspired him to invest in the instrument which he has mastered like few others. Hence his frequent return to Scriabin and a music that is so organic it seems to emanate from him naturally. Though very distinct stylistically, Trifonov considers Mozart, whose work he will also play in this programme, to have the same effortless quality.
