Following three residencies of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe at Gulbenkian Music in previous seasons, this instrumental ensemble of notable European talent performs this time under the direction of Greek conductor and violinist Leonidas Kavakos. A virtuoso musician, Kavakos joined the European Union Youth Orchestra at 12, and won the Sibelius Competition four years later. He became the first violinist to record the original version of Sibelius’ Violin Concerto, a work so complex it led the composer to review it after an unfortunate premiere.
