Grand Auditorium Calouste Gulbenkian FoundationBenjamnin Britten’s War Requiem is a harrowing anti-war declaration, composed in 1962 not only as a tribute, but also with the aim of appealing for a present and future understanding between men and nations. The work was premièred at the consecration of the new cathedral in Coventry, which replaced the old St. Michael’s Cathedral, which was completely destroyed during World War II. The Coro do Teatro Nacional de São Carlos and the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, under the direction of Graeme Jenkins, will be performing an iconic and deeply inspired work.
