It is no secret that one of the most important artistic influences in the life of the violinist Sergei Krylov lies in his friendship with the mythical cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. It was following a joint European tour that Rostropovich, as conductor, declared Krylov “one of the five best contemporary violinists in the world”. As the years went by, Krylov asserted himself as one of the greatest world specialists on the work of Paganini, bringing with him the Italian master’s long-forgotten Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 1, which he presents in his debut in Gulbenkian’s Grand Auditorium.
