The exhibition “Nowruz, Feasting in Spring” is part of the “New Year’s Celebrations: Islamic Art in the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum”, a larger initiative that includes another exhibition to open in June.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum will organise two exhibitions around key pieces from its collection of Islamic Art, under the heading New Year’s Celebrations: Islamic Art in the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, with distinct titles for each exhibition: Nowruz, Feasting in Spring, which will take place from 16 March to 3 April 2017 around the Persian carpet, inv. T66, and Eid, Breaking the fast, which will run from 22 June to 17 July 2017, and will focus on the Mogol carpet, inv. T62.

Each of these celebrations will be accompanied by a round table discussion moderated by Sussan Babaie from the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, with the support of the Goethe Institute of Lisbon. The generic title for these round tables will be Islamic Art in the Museum today, with the 29 March roundtable subtitled a controversy? and the 29 June roundtable subtitled an opportunity?. Several experts will be invited to participate in each.
