24 Short Stories Between Neighbours is a participatory artistic intervention by Ana João Romana and the members of the Entre Vizinhos (Between Neighbours) project, developed by the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum since 2017 in collaboration with senior citizens at three day centres in the parish of Avenidas Novas. 

Between Neighbours is an educational project coordinated by Diana Pereira and Joana Andrade that aims to strengthen neighbourhood and community ties, making the museum a daring and creative meeting space for sharing and creating meaningful experiences and memories.

The questions ‘What are your memories of the parish?‘ and ‘What are your memories of the Foundation?’ were the starting point for the artist’s collection of testimonies, which resulted in a two-phased artistic intervention: the publication of an artist’s book and the installation of short stories in public spaces extending from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation into the surrounding neighbourhood. The installation sites were chosen by the participants while the artist’s book is the result of a collective work and includes portraits by Eduardo Sousa Ribeiro.

24 Short Stories is one of the manifestations of the Between Neighbours project, materialising an artistic expression that gives visibility to participants’ memories and symbolically and artistically unites the everyday spaces that belong to all of us.
