MuseoBot: museums, democracy and artificial intelligence

Event Slider

We asked a ‘chatbot’ to identify three works of art in the Gulbenkian Collection that illustrate the relationship between museums and democracy. This exhibition explores its response.

In a year of commemorations that reflect on both the nature of democracy and models of democratic practice, this exercise identifies the dominant discourses and vocabulary on the civic role of museums.

In the context of the public debates about artificial intelligence, we explore the ability of chatbots to replace the work of museums in researching, interpreting and disseminating their collections.

In four different moments, we will register this alignment of museums, democracy, and the Gulbenkian Collection in the permanent exhibition of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. In the end, we will share the results of this experience on our website.
