Applications must be submitted online in Portuguese or in English by and non-profit private legal entities which have distinguished themselves in Portugal in the defence and promotion of Cohesion, Knowledge and Sustainability. 

In 2019 the Gulbenkian Prizes are as follows:
Cohesion – Violence against vulnerable groups;
Knowledge – Technologies for learning;
Sustainability – Circular economy.
