A range of works were acquired by artists who featured in temporary exhibitions held at the Gulbenkian Foundation. Such is the case with a painting by António Charrua, a photographic diptych by Willie Doherty and the installation by António Ole, Hidden Pages, Stolen Bodies, 1996-2001, an emblematic piece in the career of this Portuguese-Angolan artist. Three sculptures by Hein Semke that were displayed in the exhibition on this artist held in 2015/2016 were donated by Teresa Balté, following on from an earlier large donation of his work made in 2013. This also saw the acquisition of the relief-painting by Maria Beatriz following an exhibition dedicated to the artist and held in Casa da Cerca, in Almada.

In order to integrate into Operation 1 of Portugal em Flagrante, the first permanent exhibition of the Modern Collection, there was the acquisition of eight works on paper by Miguel Palma, belonging to his «Technical Miracle» series based upon photographs of the Higher Technical Institute taken by Horácio Novais and worked upon by the aforementioned artist. This exhibition also brought about the purchase of a photograph by Eurico Lino do Vale, a work in the series «Portraits of the Tombs of the Kings of Portugal» featuring the tomb of King Carlos I, the video work Deviation and Consequence for a new (R)evolution by José Carlos Teixeira, the installation Matchbox: Portugal is not a Small Country, by Manuel Botelho and the video by Susana Gaudêncio entitled Fortunate Isles, 2016.
