The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is a private institution whose fundamental purpose is to improve people’s quality of life through art, charity, science, and education. The Foundation operates from its headquarters in Lisbon and its branches in Paris and London.

We are looking for a Sound Technician to join our Central Services department to support performances and other activities. The Sound Technician is responsible for ensuring the installation and operation of sound systems associated with events, initiatives, exhibitions, congresses, and performances of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, safeguarding the necessary quality levels during their development.

Contractual conditions: Fixed-term employment contract for a period of 6 months.

Main responsibilities

  • Carry out the assembly of sound equipment (installation of cables, microphones, sound speakers, among others) according to each event’s needs.
  • Perform various stage sound tests, check connections and microphones, ensuring all requirements and conditions necessary for the development of events.
  • Configure (design and sizing of P.A.) and operate the necessary sound equipment for the development of various events, initiatives, exhibitions, congresses, live streams, recordings, and performances of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
  • Ensure the verification, organization, internal recording, and proper storage of equipment, ensuring their preservation.
  • Provide support and assistance in recording sound for concerts, audio for video, and audio treatment for use in promotional pieces for activities, initiatives, or events of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

Required skills

  • 12th-grade education and technical/professional training in the sound field, a degree in Sound Engineering, or a similar field (preferable)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in similar roles.
  • Technical knowledge of:
    – Acoustics for shows and recording (sound spectrum measuring devices).
    – Knowledge of Electricity/Electronics
    – Audio Post-Production in Digital Audio Workstation.
    – Sound design and sizing/Assembly and calibration of P.A./Sound operation in Concert (P.A. and Monitoring) and in Broadcast.
    – Configuration and management of computer networks (audio systems)/Operating Systems (MacOS/Win/Linux).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Schedule flexibility for the events to be held.
