* Portuguese premiere

In recent seasons, Maria João Pires has been a constant presence at Gulbenkian Música as a soloist, and in the company of musicians with whom she has developed a close rapport. The artistic convergence between the Portuguese pianist and Ricardo Castro, a Brazilian pianist and conductor, was documented in the album Résonance de l’originaire (2004), which then led to more recent episodes including a tour of Spain and France with the Gulbenkian Orchestra. In this concert, they will perform in the Grand Auditorium with the Orquestra Juvenil da Bahia, a group involved in the NEOJIBA project for social development through music inspired by the Venezuelan El Sistema and founded by Ricardo Castro in 2007.
