Let’s publish together!

Collective self-publication for teachers and educators

Event Slider

Based on the curatorial proposal ‘Censorship and Revolution. Forbidden Books in the Age of Enlightenment,’ from the Gulbenkian Museum collection, and the history of publishing through the ages, we will discover how clandestine publications were made and learn about processes of self-publication through the creation of urgent messages and ideas spread from hand to hand, with varying degrees of graphic creativity and always with limited resources.

This workshop is aimed at adults who work with children and young people (teachers, educators, mediators, librarians, parents) and sheds light on the world of fanzines and self-publication through historical context and practical tools, with a view to producing creative content and materialising it by publishing multiples in collective contexts.

Self-publication is promoted as a tool of learning and knowledge construction as a group and this session will experiment with graphic techniques of typography, printing, folding and binding to create collective languages – formats of group publication that require collaboration and collective and active reading / listening.

Participation includes step-by-step notes for the creation of a fanzine.
