The inspiration for this new quartet from saxophonist James Brandon Lewis (founder of Heroes Are Gang Leaders) is original to say the least. As a musician of omnivorous taste, Lewis became seduced by molecular biology, and based on his research developed a particular musical system for the creation of a repertoire composed with this at heart. For someone already lauded in recent years as one of jazz and free music’s most creative figures, peppering his discourse with unexpected and innovative references, nevertheless Molecular is a source of irresistible novelty.
