• José-Augusto França spends a year in Paris and the two report on subjects such as the city’s exhibitions and salons.
  • At the Hôtel Montalembert he meets Bernard Grasset (1881–1955), the famous French editor (founder of the Éditions Nouvelles, later named the Éditions Bernard Grasset). Dacosta starts to work as Grasset’s secretary, and they often have long conversations. They play chess almost every night and on Sunday they often lunch in the countryside near Paris. They are photographed together by Henri Cartier-Bresson around 1955 in Les Deux Magots, a café in St. Germain des Près.
