IGC study found that healthy kidneys stop anemia in malaria

IGC researchers from the Inflammation Lab reveal a new mechanism to escape severe complications of malaria. The team led by Miguel Soares discovered that kidneys play a role in preventing mortality from severe forms of malaria. The discovery could contribute to the prognosis of infected patients and the development of targeted therapies, decreasing the number of deaths from malaria.
