Virus monitoring

Early on, researchers at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC) began sequencing positive samples of the SARS-CoV-2 virus from different hospital units in the country.

With this technique, it is possible to monitor and detect the viruses that are in circulation, to understand if there are variations between them and to provide critical information for the adoption of public health measures. Only then is it possible to anticipate moves, gain an advantage over the virus and contain the pandemic.
