Calouste Gulbenkian Museum – Guide

This guide is the first to cover the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum together with its two collections. A preliminary essay by the Director, Penelope Curtis, introducing the collector, the collections, and the buildings where they are displayed, is followed by a number of short sections outlining the ways in which Calouste Gulbenkian assembled his exceptional collection, and how, after his death, the Foundation went on to become a major sponsor of Portuguese art.

With contributions from all the Museum’s curators, a timeline of Portuguese history in the 20th century, and many illustrations representing the art, the architecture and the seminal landscaped gardens, this guide is both an introduction and a souvenir.
