The 6th edition of Contextile – Contemporary Textile Art Biennial will take place in Guimarães between 3 September and 30 October this year, presenting a vast programme around contemporary textile art, including exhibitions, conversations, workshops and artistic residencies.

CAM is associated with the Biennial through the loan of the work Sombra deitada de Umberto Spínola (1971), by Lourdes Castro, which will be shown at the exhibition 10 Artistas – O Têxtil na Arte Portuguesa (10 Artists – Textiles in Portuguese Art), to be held at the CIAJG – José de Guimarães International Centre for the Arts. The exhibition focuses on the work of Portuguese artists who included textiles in their production, mainly in the 1960 and 70s, when the practice became more common.

In addition to Lourdes Castro, the exhibition also includes works by Ana Vieira, António Barros, Eduardo Nery, Gisella Santi, Joana Vasconcelos, João Pedro Vale and Nuno Alexandre Ferreira, José de Guimarães, Leonor Antunes and Margarida Reis. Find the Biennial’s full programme.
